A Journal „tutorial“ aka „save time and make your dA life easier“.

I just couldn't watch my fellow deviants doing the features the most tiring and time consuming ways anymore, while there is much simpler and really fast way of dealing with big features, as big as the Journal limit allows if necessary, and I will share how. It's up to you if you wanna start using it too.

It's really nothing special, just an incredibly useful method I figured along the way, through my long featuring „career“. Also, maybe it will give motivation to more people to start making features, small or big, and help support their favorite artists, artists who deserve much more recognition and feedback, introduce unknown great artists and their art they found to others, etc.

The „tutorial“ is divided in 2 parts:

1. Featuring artwork collected though Polls/Journals made especially for that

2. Featuring artwork from your Favorites

1. Featuring artwork collected though Polls/Journals made especially for that. Like my "Watchers Features!" for example, "first X people to comment gets featured" and similar.

I. For any kind of feature you're doing this way, ask people for THUMBNAILS and thumbnails only, links are out of the option! (Do you really want to spend bloody ages clicking on X links, opening each deviation individually and copy-pasting each thumb on your Journal? Oh, you want to arrange them too? Everyone who's ever done that knows how time consuming and tiring and even frustrating that can be, I surely do.)

II. After you close the Journal/Poll/have enough people you decided to feature, you can hold down Ctrl and scroll down the comments section carefully selecting one by one thumbnail and then copy-paste them all at once to your Journal, BUT there is even faster and easier way!

Scroll down and select the crap out of that comments section! Erm, I mean make sure you selected all the thumbnails from the comments and don't worry about any text, avatars, signatures, usernames, etc. that get selected too. Copy and paste that whole mess to your Journal Entry.

III. Click the "Preview" button. On preview Journal right-click and select "View Page Source". Select and copy all (Ctrl+A or right-click and "Select all").

IV. Go to this fantastic site  www.blazkosi.com/dasort/ made by Bekey, paste that source-code and watch the mess you started with become only thumbnails nicely sorted by their orientation.

V. Go back to your Journal Entry, erase all that mess, copy-paste the thumbs from that site to your Journal Entry/custom box, do some additional arranging by yourself if you want and ta-da!

Long read, but actually very simple and all done in just couple of minutes. Using this method you can feature 100+ thumbs in only couple of minutes and even have it all arranged nicely in your Journal!

2. Featuring artwork from your Favorites

I. First I suggest you make a folder in your Favorites with artwork you plan to feature, it's much more convenient that way and you can erase it when you're done.

II. Open a new/existing Journal Entry and click on the Favorites button in the top right corner. Select that folder you made and drag and drop every thumbnail on your Journal Entry. Sometimes when you don't do it right, the thumbnail code won't appear on your Journal entry, so gotta do it again until it does. (detailed instructions for deviants who don't have experience with drag and drop)

III. The rest of the process is the same as from the above. Preview Journal, copy the source code and so on.

Anyway, I hope you find it useful and ask if you don't understand something.

No problem. :) After I saw yesterday a person dealing with 50+ links who also likes to arrange them nicely too I said to myself: that's it! :D

Yeah, it's fantastic. I used to copy-paste only the thumbs to the Journal, but recently it came to my mind how stupid I was, it was like: hey, when I paste that thumbs to my Journal, there's also text and whatnot in my journal and when I do that website thingy only thumbs remain. Let's try copy-paste the whole comments section!

Thanks a lot for the information!

I have a silly question though:
I sometimes want to refer to a reference photo or to my own WIP image and I don't like the text link, but have no idea how to set a thumbnail link to another page. How do you set a thumbnail link in a regular page (not a journal)?

Thanks in advanced

You can't use thumbnails anywhere because you're not a premium member, it's a feature only for people who bought subscription, but if you want you can name links to get something like this for example: WIP1|WIP2|WIP1 instead of [link]|[link]|[link]

Looks nicer. You just write the code like this:

<a *href="paste link address">name your link<*/a> remove *

Yeah. Btw, now when you mention it, you can remove that fav if you want. Not many people decided to help to test it. Still less favs than people featured, BUT even with some more favs then usual, so far the feature's been seen by 3 times more people than the last few and ended up in the Footer for a day and half, so that's something too.
