Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley & Dave Legeno as Fenrir Greyback from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie

I call myself a big fan of HP books and I've drawn zero HP fanarts until this one!(I don't count 2 drawings I drew long time ago) :D From all the characters I've never thought I'd draw Ron first.

HP Project:

:bulletgreen: Ron Weasley and Greyback
:bulletgreen: Hermione Granger and Slughorn
:bulletgreen: Dumbledore and Snape
:bulletgreen: Harry Potter and Draco
:bulletgreen: The Unknown We Fear
:bulletgreen: The Half-Blood
:bulletgreen: The Dark Lord
:bulletgreen: The Boy Who Lived

Now the "technical" part.

I played with contrast, light and shadows on the ref picture
so that's why my drawing has a bit different lightning, contrast than the poster I drew+I cropped the ref even more so that I can make my drawing bigger (I draw on A4 paper)

I made a huge mistake at the very beginning (at least I thought so at first)- I drew the outlines on the wrong side of the paper, the more grainy side and didn't want to draw them again since I already spent too much time on them.

I had to put twice more effort into this drawing because of that + I had to completely change the way I work on some particular area, the way I usually shade.Meaning,I had to use pencils I usually don't use for for some particular area so that I'm able to create the texture I want etc.

I was a bit concerned because I didn't know if I'll be able to make a good portrait,a drawing I'll be happy with but it turned out so much better than I expected.

The drawing looks much better in reality, the scan looks more grainy and strange on some parts than the drawing in reality.

I hope you like it! :aww:

The contrast is magnificent and despite me not liking the whole one eye thing when I first saw your Harry and Draco drawing, I'm starting to dig it. The composition is unusual, yes, but nonetheless it works! I guess this is that example of when you know the rules, break them ;)
Fantastic blending and detailing. I'm blown away by the likeness in your portraits. How do you do that? Pure observation and mad skills? Gridding? Guide lines? :giggle: I have such a hard time achieving a likeness.. X_x

Oh, but the composition is not mine, I'm simply drawing HP6 posters. You haven's seen them? Thank you very much! Well, I do use grid to get the outlines because it's very important for me to have the right proportions, although using grind does not guarantee you you'll have the perfect likeness in the end, but it helps to at least not to have some huge mistakes. For example, that link I sent you to Jensen's drawing- outlines on that drawing do not really look like Jensen but in the end the finished drawing doeas.
It takes some practice and good eye to get the likeness. Just keep practicing as much as you can and the likeness should come :aww:

Come to think about it, yes, I have seen them... DUH! :giggle: For some reason I thought you were compositing two photos together. I feel sheepish :giggle:
Grid, fantastic hateful grid. The last time I drew a portrait I rushed the outlines and when I finished it, it looked askew and weird; teached me right.
Yes, I'll keep on practicing 'till I get it straight!!!!

Have you heard that Picasso story?

Legend has it that Pablo Picasso was sketching in the park when a woman approached him.
“It’s you — Picasso, the great artist! Oh, you must sketch my portrait! I insist.”
So Picasso agreed to sketch her. After studying her for a moment, he used a single pencil stroke to create her portrait. He handed the woman his work of art.
“It’s perfect!” she gushed. “You managed to capture my essence with one stroke, in one moment. Thank you! How much do I owe you?”
“Five thousand dollars,” the artist replied.
“B-b-but, what?” the woman sputtered. “How could you want so much money for this picture? It only took you a second to draw it!”
To which Picasso responded, “Madame, it took me my entire life.”

I think it pretty much sums up the whole practices makes perfect... :giggle:  Thanks again for the insights and quick reply :D

Hhehe in that case I'd make some better composition!
The outlines are very very important and not matter how many of us hate drawing them we should always try to do the right because the whole drawing depends on them.

I haven't heard it until now. It's a great story!

Yup, everything depends on them... :)
It is a great story! One of my favorite to tell clients or people that comment on how fast I do something... it's a fantastic way of explaining that it does take more than just the few minutes they saw of work. :D
