So, what’s so different with my HP series of drawings compared to my other drawings? I draw on fine grain paper, on the “wrong” side of paper, less grainy one. Since I accidentally drew my first drawing from the series on the more grainy side, I decided to draw the whole series on that side to achieve the same “effect” as with my first drawing from the series so they’re all similar, if you get what I mean. Same as with the rest, I had to put some more effort to get what I want because, believe me, drawing on such grainy paper without blending is not an easy thing + I needed to use a bit different technique when drawing than the one I’m used to.
hi, big big fan of your work, that's an understatement i freaking love it! but may i ask which pencils you use to draw the skin, i have always shaded and i wanted to try a piece without doing, just to see if i like it or not. i'd just like to know what you use to color the skin and what pencils you use to get places so dark. Thanks!
Also, it's possible to create dark skin with lower grades than 4B, it depends on the brand of pencils you use, some are darker, some not. and which layers of which pencils you use and in what orders. You experiment to see what works the best for you.
Thank you so much! Well, I may use just any, it depends on what I draw. I guess you meant to say without blending and not shading? I prefer to use textured paper, it makes it easier to get the look I want. It's simple, you want dark skin, you use dark pencils. 4B and up. It's good to have 2B or more preferably 4B mechanical pencil with which you can draw fine detail very dark. If you're drawing a very dark skin and you want to do so without blending, you must know how to put down layers with different pencils, and in what order for desired look and to avoid accidental great smudging. It's something you learn by practicing and experience. It's been a long time, but I guess for this drawing in particular, I used 2B mechanical pencils for details, 2B, H, 2H, 4B regular pencils for Hermione's face. First layers were probably done with lighter pencils, then creation of texture and fine details with 4B and 2B mechanical pencil. Possibly some lighter layers over some areas again and probably some light layers of 6 or 7B on darkest areas.
